If you can afford it and it is an option for you, I think custom furniture is a fantastic idea. There are a number of furniture companies out there, usually small, that will basically make what you want to your specifics. In most cases, they are certainly worth it.
Why do I love the idea of custom furniture? When it comes right down to it, furniture is a “feel” purchase. When you get to choose the wood, the fabric, the size, the hardware, and every other feature of your furniture, you can expect to pay for it. For many of us, that is simply not an option. On the other hand, it may be a great way to ensure that you will have a piece of furniture that you can pass down for generations. In the end, that just might make it worth the extra few zeros on the price.
