Furniture can certainly be a display of innovation and creativity. Check out this NYtimes article about being innovative with furniture and using what you have to fashion what you need. In fact, yours truly just built a simple desk rather than buying one. I now have a piece of furniture that is customized to our space, that matches our colors in the room, and cost a lot less than purchasing what we would have wanted/needed. Though I think furniture stores and furniture shopping are great, sometimes it is just about what you can do.
