Don't Forget the Details

Fall is a time of year when many people start to look at furniture. The reason furniture shopping becomes so big this time of year is because 'tis the season to be eating. Undoubtedly, many who are hosting big holiday dinners are considering new furniture to wow family and friends. As you wander through massive showrooms and countless room set ups, it is natural to start considering other rooms as well.

No matter what the reason or how you got there, if you are thinking of refurnishing, make sure you consider the details. I saw many a couple or family come in to buy furniture at the store. They would buy an entire dining room and living room for several thousand dollars. Then, though, they would balk at spending another $100 on a few accessories that would really set the room or the home apart. Accessories are the cufflinks of home decor: they may not be noticed, but in their own subtle way they can set an entire ensemble apart.

Take a minute to consider your lighting options when you are furnishing. Additionally, think about adding splashes of color with a couple of vases or maybe a throw on the end of the sofa. A little extra can go a long way, and if you are spending a lot to furnish a home or even one room, shouldn't you do everything you can to really make it pop?

If you don't like what your local furniture showroom has to offer (and I will tell you right now, that many furniture stores overprice their accessories even when the furniture itself is well priced), you can find accessories in many places. Try the internet in this case. If you see a piece you like on a showroom, look for it online to get a  better price since unlike furniture, accessories dont always need to be seen in person. The same can be said of accent pieces. I would encourage you to look online at things like patio furniture, accent tables, and small decorative pieces.

In the end, you have to make the decisions about what you need and where you get them. Just remember, though, that details are the key to having a room you love and one your visitors will remember.

Hope This Helps,
The Furniture Guy
