Do You Need Help Picking A Leather Chair?

Perhaps one of the biggest reasons for buying a leather arm chair is that it not only looks good but it typically last much longer and doesn't need much maintenance or cleaning as other types of furniture. This is a really nice blog entry about the process of choosing a leather chair. I have talked, in the past, about choosing a leather sofa or at least leather furniture. Again, though, I like to give access to the advice of others since it is an accumulation of knowledge that is going to make you an expert. In the end, shopping for furniture or for a leather chair like an expert is going to make the entire experience much better.Remember, there are many benefits to leather. Often times, customers come into a story thinking that leather is high maintenance and fragile. In reality, depending on what type you get, leather can actually be very low maintenance and can be very durable. Simply educate yourself on the construction of leather furniture as well as the proper way to shop for a leather chair. This article should be an asset to you in doing just that.Hope this article helps! The Furniture Guy

Which Patio Furniture Sale Is Worthy Of Your Time?

As the leaves turn, snow falls, football takes the spotlight, and baseball winds down, time outdoors becomes time spent indoors. That is why you will see a lot of patio furniture sales out there. What is left of the patio furniture in stores and on showroom floors is really just taking up space with winter ahead. You shoudl see lots of mark down and clearance prices on patio furniture. This is an article I spotted that may help you take advantage of these patio furniture sales. If you have the space to store your patio furniture, this is a great time to buy it. Next spring, you will avoid those mark ups for seasonal furniture and be able to set up as soon as the weather permits. Before you go looking for the patio furniture, though, make sure that you have a plan as you would with any type of furniture shopping. As you read through this article, also keep in mind that when you shop for patio furniture the same rules should apply as when you shop for anything else: measure, measure, measure, and do your homework. If you go in prepared, your patio furniture shopping experience really should be a good one.Hope this helps,The Furniture Guy

Recommended Furniture Site

When it comes to furniture shopping, I happen to believe that you can never have too much information. Part of what makes furniture shopping so intimidating for people is that there is a certain level of mystery involved. Furniture is just not something that people tend to know a lot about. With that in mind, I always try to keep an eye out for information outside this furniture blog that can help potential furniture shoppers.

THIS WEBSITE is a great one for finding furniture shopping information. It is loaded with articles about a variety of furniture types. From dining room to living room furniture, the site covers pretty much everything. Of course, I hope that your furniture shopper information starts here, but a shrewd shopper will always seek out additional information from multiple sources.

Don't Forget the Details

Fall is a time of year when many people start to look at furniture. The reason furniture shopping becomes so big this time of year is because 'tis the season to be eating. Undoubtedly, many who are hosting big holiday dinners are considering new furniture to wow family and friends. As you wander through massive showrooms and countless room set ups, it is natural to start considering other rooms as well.

No matter what the reason or how you got there, if you are thinking of refurnishing, make sure you consider the details. I saw many a couple or family come in to buy furniture at the store. They would buy an entire dining room and living room for several thousand dollars. Then, though, they would balk at spending another $100 on a few accessories that would really set the room or the home apart. Accessories are the cufflinks of home decor: they may not be noticed, but in their own subtle way they can set an entire ensemble apart.

Take a minute to consider your lighting options when you are furnishing. Additionally, think about adding splashes of color with a couple of vases or maybe a throw on the end of the sofa. A little extra can go a long way, and if you are spending a lot to furnish a home or even one room, shouldn't you do everything you can to really make it pop?

If you don't like what your local furniture showroom has to offer (and I will tell you right now, that many furniture stores overprice their accessories even when the furniture itself is well priced), you can find accessories in many places. Try the internet in this case. If you see a piece you like on a showroom, look for it online to get a  better price since unlike furniture, accessories dont always need to be seen in person. The same can be said of accent pieces. I would encourage you to look online at things like patio furniture, accent tables, and small decorative pieces.

In the end, you have to make the decisions about what you need and where you get them. Just remember, though, that details are the key to having a room you love and one your visitors will remember.

Hope This Helps,
The Furniture Guy

Buying Rustico

The southwestern look has become popular in furniture. Add to that the fact that it has become popular to get furniture with worn and distressed looks and you have the popularity of rustico furniture. When I was working the sales floor and managing a furniture showroom, I saw just how popular rustico furniture is. The only problem is that I also saw how often it was returned. Usually, the problem was nothing more than a customer who was not properly educated about the true nature of rustico style furniture.

Rustico furniture is essentially unfinished pine furniture. Usually, it is imported from Mexico or other parts of Latin America. It is made to look old and to look very worn.

If you are in the market for rustico style furniture, then you should make sure you understand what you are getting. Rustico WILL split even if it is not already. The hinges WILL squeek and rust. Additionally, every piece is unique. That means that when you buy from a store and get a piece from the warehouse, then it is very likely that your piece will be different than what you see on the showfloor. There will be pieces with splits and warps and bends on some that will not be on others.

Having said all of that, rustico furniture can be a wonderful investment. The cost is low, it lasts a long time since it is made of solid wood, and it offers a timeless look. Additionally, you will find that you do not have to worry about scratching it up or preventing warping in bad weather. Just make sure that you go into your rustico shopping experience with your eyes wide open; know your rustico and you will have better experience.

Bamboo Furniture Buying Tips

With an increasing emphasis in the world today on "green" living, furniture shoppers are turning an eye toward pieces that are friendly to our world. One example is bamboo. Bamboo grows fast (up to a foot a day..yikes), so it is a highly renewable resource. If you are thinking that you may be in the market for some of this environmentally friendly furniture, then check out this article. In it, the author gives valuable tips on how to shop for bamboo furniture. Since I do not have a whole lot of experience with bamboo furniture myself, this seemed like the perfect article to send along to my readers. If anyone out there makes a bamboo furniture purchase, then let me know how it goes for you. I have a feeling that bamboo furniture is not going anywhere and that we will see more and more pieces available in mainstream furniture stores.Hope this helps,The Furniture Guy

Construction and Warranty

Around the internet on furniture message boards, the debate and the questions about 8 way hand tied furnitures versus those with pirelli webbing seems to dominate. While, as you know, I happen to believe that they are equal, there are 100 different opinions on 100 different furniture sites and furniture message boards. So how are you, the consumer, supposed to sort all of this out? Simply, find out who is putting their money where their mouth is in the furniture industry.

First of all, make sure that whatever furniture you end up buying is comfortable. Whether it is hand tied, webbed, or something totally different, you need to like the way it feels. Sit on the sofa at the store, bounce on it a little, and maybe even lie down on it. That is how you first decide whether or not you like the sofa you are looking at.

Next, make sure you are getting something made well. With all the questions about hand tied and webbed, how are you supposed to do that? Simply, check the quality yourself by feeling the sofa. Take the cushions off and feel the webbing/hand tied nature directly. Stand or sit on it without the cushions, not so much for comfort but to feel the sturdiness in it.

Finally, ask about warranty. No matter what the construction issue is, if the company truly believes in the construction they will warranty it. There are, in fact, a huge number of manufacturers out there that will give you a lifetime warranty on the springs (including webbing and hand tied) and frame. As a salesman, this always told me that they believed in it. Trust me, if they thought they would spend a lot of time on repairs, they wouldn't do it. As a manager, I know how much it costs a furniture company (where I worked, we did our own warranty work and repairs) to repair or take returns on furniture. It is an absolute profit killer. So if you have doubts, check to see if the store or the company is backing the piece. Once you know, it won't matter what it is made of; it will just be something that is comfortable, affordable, and backed by those who made it or sold it to you.

The Perfect Saving Guide: Window Shopping Before Buying a Furniture

Here is a great article to check out. It explains the benefits of window shopping before you buy furniture online or in person. I could not agree more. if you are a furniture shopper, you need to prepare (as I have explained a number of times). Part of preparing is looking at what is out there in the industry. THe best way to do just that is to window shop. Even compared to looking at pictures online, window shopping is where it is. When you look at furniture online, you end up with distorted ideas of size, color, and texture. In person, or through a window, you can find out exactly what it is that you are looking at and considering. Then, whether you buy in person or online, you will end up with the furniture that you know you want. So check out the article and see what it is about window shopping for furniture that is so important.

For Help, Avoid the Furniture Crowds

While it is important to be prepared and it is important to watch for sales, it is also important to go to the furniture store at a time when you can make use of the sales people. I know, furniture sales people seem like the slightly more honest cousins of used car salesmen, but the truth is that most really do want to help you. If you are well prepared for your furniture shopping, there is nothing to "fear."

With that said, furniture people are trying to make a living. On the weekends and on major holidays, they want customers who are ready to go or are going to be a "big ticket." If you want a sofa and recliner, but want a lot of help and feedback, the best time may not be the really busy weekends or holidays.

On the other hand, if you go on a weekday, you can really pick someone's brain. Sales people in most furniture stores get very intense training on everything from construction of furniture to decorating training. They are a resource that you would do well to use when you are shopping. Just make sure you do your own homework first; that will allow you to spot that one in 50 that really might be dishonest. Find a good one on a slow day, though, and you will have a fabulous experience with someone that truly wants to and can help you put together the perfect furniture set for the room you are working on.

Check this article out for tips and hints on furniture shopping. Preparation and planning, I believe, are as important as anything else you can do when it comes to buying or shopping for furniture. It allows you to take advantage of a sales person's expertise without letting him or her take advantage of your ignorance. Additionally, you will be more likely to get furniture with which you are a happy over the long-haul. Isn't that really the point?Hope this helps,The Furniture Guy

Watch for Holiday Sales

As someone who worked for several years in retail furniture, I can tell you that there is nothing a furniture store loves more than a chance to have a holiday-based sale. Between Columbus Day, the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday, and even general "Fall" sales, keep a look out for deals on the items you have been considering.

The nice time about this time of year with furniture is that there are a couple of things going on at once:
1) Thanksgiving and the winter holidays are right around the corner, which draws in business.
2) Many of the purchases from furniture shows are starting to arrive, which means a need to sell off the old to make warehouse room for the new.

As you consider a new dining set or any other furniture, keep your eyes and ears open. Watch for those sales and keep an eye on your newspaper circulars so that you know when the best deal on that dining set or living room set is in effect.
